This work involves the responsibility for handling the routine flow of finance matters in the Finance Office.
This individual must project professionalism at all times and have the ability to deal effectively with all Project Directors on the subject of routine finance matters.
In absence of the Finance Director, must be capable of and willing to take authoritative action within the specified limit of the Finance Office.
The Assistant Finance Director must be able to understand and become familiar with all agency contracts, accounting procedures, federal regulations and budgetary controls.
This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.
The Assistant Finance Director is responsible for allocating and assigning duties to all accountants and ensuring that all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure; Responsible for processing agency payroll which includes ensuring accurate payroll deductions (insurance, retirement, etc.
); Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close; Ensure the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable; Assist Finance Director in daily banking requirements; Assist in development and implementing new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the Finance Department; Assist Finance Director in monitoring and analyzing the Finance Department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of time resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy; Work with the Finance Director to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit; Supports budget and forecasting activities; Respond to inquiries from the Finance Director and Executive Director regarding financial results, special reporting requests; Supervise the general ledger group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met; Maintain the Fixed Asset and associated depreciation schedules; Responsible for all quarterly tax reports; Responsible for training new and existing staff as needed; Oversee Petty Cash Reconciliation; Oversee Bank Reconciliation; Oversee the work of the all accountants and report any issues to the Finance Director.

EDUCATION BA/BS in Business Administration with a major in accounting from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.
However, an Associate Degree in Business Administration from an accredited college, university or technical college would be accepted providing there is at least four (4) years of experience in the accounting field.
SKILLS Must be highly skilled in dealing with financial and numeric data.
Must have the ability to supervise.
Must be highly skilled in use of Excel Spreadsheets.
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Ten key touch required.
Ability to type 35 wpm.
Must have excellent work habits.
Employees in the Finance Department must adhere to a strict code of conduct with regard to confidentiality.
The nature of services provided within the Finance Department requires that information be handled in a private, confidential manner by its employees.
