Under general supervision, performs skilled duties in the operation of heavy, complex motorized equipment used in the construction and maintenance of highways and bridges or the in the movement of materials, supplies, or equipment. Functions as crew leader in Beaufort County performing various duties related to highway maintenance. Reviews daily records of work performed and materials and equipment used recording quantities into HMMS as well as daily PM vehicle checklists for all assigned crews. Assists in the weekly and monthly reports, time sheets, and cost records. Leads and coordinates crew in the removal of snow, ice, and storm damage from roadways and bridges. Assumes foreman's duties and responsibilities in his absence including resolving problems and complaints of citizens. Verifies all personnel, equipment and materials assigned to the crew are listed under HMMS have been correctly entered each workday. Performs other related job duties as assigned by supervisor. Assistsin emergency operations when crew is in an On Call status after hours, weekends, and holidays for all road emergencies including inclement weather, snow and ice, or hazardous road conditions and accidents. Assists Foreman in inspecting all aspects of the roadway and right-of-way maintenance including thermo plastic placement, ditching, machining shoulders, patching, general excavation, laying pipe, asphalt paving, and vegetation management.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
10th grade education and four and one-half (4.5) years of related trades experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). (Note): This position requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License. However, applicants without a Class A Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class A Commercial Driver's License are available.
Class A Commercial Driver's License must be attained within six (6 months) of placement in the position.
