Trades Specialist II KC20 2D (42479) Beaufort

Under general supervision, helps skilled trades workers perform repairs in maintenance or construction on State roadways. May operate motorized equipment used in the maintenance of highways or the movement of materials, supplies and equipment. Trains in the operation of a backhoe in cleaning ditches, placing pipes, removing trees from roadways and right-of-way. Operates a tandem or 5-yard dump truck for hauling materials to and from work sites. Operates and maintains the self-propelled steel wheel or rubber tire roller during rocking operations to compact fill material during resurfacing operations. Operates front end loaders. Operates and maintains hand and electric/gas powered tools used in various phases of roadway maintenance including a chainsaw to remove limbs and trees from right-of-way. Flags and directs traffic in work zones to protect the workers, the public, and equipment. Performs other related job duties as requested or assigned by supervisor. Assistsin emergency operations when crew is in an On Call status after hours, weekends, and holidays for all road emergencies including inclement weather, snow and ice, or hazardous road conditions and accidents.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
10th grade education and two and one-half (2.5) years of related trades experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations.
A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL). (Note): This position requires a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License. However, applicants without a Class A Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class A Commercial Driver's License are available.
Class A Commercial Driver's License must be attained within six (6 months) of placement in the position.
