Under general supervision, performs general social work duties related to SNAP and Family Independence in the Economic Services division in a county office to include assessment, eligibility for assistance, consultation and referral to other community agencies to help restore or improve customer financial stability.
1. Determine eligibility for SNAP and FI applications and reapplications by collecting, verifying and processing information received from Interviewing Center and/or clients within required timeframes. Documents all information needed for processing electronically. Sends CHIP notices to clients and/or occasionally, interviews clients to request any additional information needed to process pending cases.
2. Maintains electronic case files (into agency designated system) accurately and timely for documentation and auditing purposes; safeguards confidentiality of files and information in files.
3. Identifies and documents overpayments and makes possible claims referral to Investigative/Claims unit or as directed; prepares summaries and supporting documents for Fair Hearings and attends hearings as directed.
4. Provides services in accordance to agency policy and procedure.
5. Participates in training and supervisory meetings or staffings as required.
6. To ensure that Personal Identifying Information (PII) is properly used, accessed, gathered, shared and disposed. To protect the agency networks and applications by safeguarding systems, equipment and data.
7. Performs Red Cross shelter duty or other emergency shelter duty/services as directed.
8. Performs other related duties as required.
_NOTE_ : MUST POSSESS A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE.
_NOTE_ : MUST POSSESS THE ABILITY TO ENTER DATA IN THE COMPUTER TO DETERMINE ELIGIBILITY FOR BENEFITS CONSISTENTLY DURING WORKDAY.
_NOTE_ : MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO INTERVIEW CLIENTS VIA PHONE AS NECESSARY TO GATHER NECESSARY INFORMATION.
_NOTE_ : MUST HAVE A HIGH TOLERANCE FOR NOISE AND IRATE CLIENTS; CROWDED WORKING CONDITIONS.
_NOTE_ : LIMITED OVERNIGHT TRAVEL.

Minimum and Additional Requirements:
_STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA MINIMUM, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:_
Experience in a relevant program area.

_ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:_
An associate's degree and one (1) year experience in clerical, administrative, social work, correctional, business administration, or general business;
A high school diploma and three (3) years' experience in clerical, administrative, social work, correctional, business administration, or general business.

Knowledge of casework practices and interviewing techniques. Knowledge of services available from the community and other public and private programs. Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws or regulations pertaining to social service programs. Ability to organize and maintain a caseload. Ability to exercise discretion in interpreting and applying established objectives. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials, other state agencies, and the public. Ability to communication effectively.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
