Under direct supervision, helps skilled trades workers perform repairs in maintenance or construction on State roadways for SCDOT. May perform maintenance tasks requiring limited degree of professional skill. Performs manual labor using hand tools in the repair and maintenance of roads including clearing of rights-of-way, ditch cleaning, repairing shoulders, pothole patching, laying sideline/cross line pipe and making base repairs. Removes litter, debris and dead animals from roadway and right-of-way. Requires heavy lifting. Flags and directs traffic in work zones to protect the workers, the public, and equipment. When crew is in an on-call status, is available 24 hours a day in response to after-hours emergencies, equipment inspections, maintenance, and inclement weather. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
10th grade education; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL). (Note): This position requires a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License. However, applicants without a Class B Commercial Driver's License will be considered if no qualified applicants with a Class B Commercial Driver's License are available.
Class B Commercial Driver's License must be attained within six (6 months) of placement in the position.
